How To Teach Your Children to Have a Global Impact

July 30, 2018

Nurturing your child to be a holistic, loving human being is every parents’ dream. But if we’re honest with ourselves, life can get pretty busy and often this holistic dream is reduced to just achieving good grades or excelling in other activities like soccer, singing and dance. We often fail to stimulate beautiful characteristics hidden within our own children like empathy, love, sharing and understanding. But it is never too late!

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” – (Hebrews 13:16)

Empathy, such as showing concern for someone, is instilled in all of us as children. But as we grow up like many other aspects of development, the quality and quantity may dim as time goes on. Studies show that parents’ role in inculcating these values in children are so significant. It is our duty as parents to show them and guide them in as they grow and make them aware of the global impact of their actions.

Here are a few suggestions to help your child take that first step in helping others to realize the lifelong change they are creating in another child’s life:

  • Teach your child about India and about the poor living conditions in rural India

Introducing the country which is geographically miles away is the first step. Showing them clippings and videos of the country and a view of the culture will give your child a sense of the way of life in India. Next, incite conversations about the population and poor living conditions in which people struggle to make a living. The vast difference between the rich and the poor living side by side can be brought to their attention. The lack of basic education, the cycle of poverty that encapsulates generation after generation will give your child a sense of empathy for children who are living with less.

  • Why Sponsor a child?

As any curious child would, you can expect an array of questions raised by your child about how he or she can help the situation. This is where you can introduce sponsoring a child. Sponsoring a child is one of the most effective ways in which you can help the poor community in rural India. Every penny that you spend on a sponsored child is used for their education as it has a direct impact on life expectancy and overall health. It’s also a powerful agent of change that can lift generations out of poverty – educated parents are more likely to see the value of education for their children and how it inevitably helps to rebuilt families and communities. When you sponsor a child through, Love One More, you are not only helping them to meet their goals and dreams, but sponsorship also helps your child to be more empathetic towards those living in the world around them. You teach your children through this selfless act values and ideals that will stay with them forever.

  • Sponsor a child; Gain a friend

Money alone would not suffice the needs of thousands of children going through the trials and tribulations brought forth by poverty and social evils. Let your child understand this fact and as parents urge them to pray for the little children they are saving with their small contributions. Also it would be a pleasant surprise for your sponsored child to receive letters or notes of love from your own little one. The morale boost that it would give them knows no bounds!

When you sponsor a child, you attain a special kind of giving that creates a relationship between you, the child and the neighborhood where Love One More is helping to change the future. Sponsorship provides vital aid and education to improve the well-being of children. It gives you the opportunity to witness young lives transformed for the future. When you sponsor a child you are then transforming two lives; that child’s and your own child’s.

Let’s do our best as parents to encourage the qualities of love and empathy in our little ones. Also, allow them to be part of this noble venture by including their tiny contributions, however small, in helping their less fortunate friends in India. Sponsor a child here.
