COVID-19 Update: 100 Helpless Children

April 13, 2020

With stay-at-home orders, self-quarantines, social distancing, and more, most of us have been blessed with the ability to stay in touch with family and friends. Some people living in rural India are not so lucky. With the swift lock-down set in place on March 24th by Prime Minister Modi, many parents who travel to find work have been stranded from their families and their children.

In one rural village, the children have been left to fend for themselves.

Almost 100 children, some as young as three years old, are left out in the open without a roof over their heads, food to eat, or someone to care for them. They have been going door-to-door in their village and neighboring villages to find food. Their daily needs are barely met. If they are lucky enough to find a meal, it is only because of the compassion from other adults and families in the village. Despite the kindness of many, there are still several children who have not had a meal in days. When a pastor from India Gospel League (our parent ministry) found the children and gathered them up, they were also unclean and had not bathed in days.

This heartbreaking situation has led us to initiate relief efforts by reaching out and helping these children in need. India Gospel League and Love One More are teaming up to provide a cooked meal every day for the next 10 days, clean water to drink, and a hygiene kit. For families in the village, we are providing food supplies like rice and lentils.

We need your help. It is your prayers and financial contributions that allow pastors and workers in India to go from village to village and share food, water, and hygienic supplies.

How you can help:

  • Pray for this village and the children. Lift up the children’s health, that they won’t succumb to infection and other social dangers.
  • Pray for the pastor, his wife, and their two children as they work on the front lines risking their lives to help those in need.
  • Lift up our efforts to provide relief at this time as the lock-down presents new challenges.
  • Donate to our children in crisis fund. These gifts will directly benefit the children in need of food and medication.

    1. Hi Ken, thank you so much for your question! It is good to be critical of new information.

To give a broad scope of the transparency of our organization and our parent organization India Gospel League, I want to point you to the accreditations we have received with ECFA, Charity Navigator, and the BBB. We strive to be as transparent as possible without endangering any of our pastors, families, or staff members in India.

In addition to third-party evaluations, our organization model has always been extremely personal. This specific village is part of our Adopt A Region program. In this program, the local pastor already has relationships with the people that live in villages throughout the region. Because our model is relational, we do not set up any programs unless there is an established relationship. It is through these existing relationships that we are able to receive information and requests for help from villages in rural India.

If you would like more information, I can connect you with one of our Region Field Directors who has a personal relationship with this region and the pastor who passed along the information on these children in need.
